The creator used a super heavyweight yarn for this project. The yarn shown in the video tutorial below is called Mandala Thick & Quick by Lion Brand Yarn.

It is 100% acrylic and super soft! In total, you will need about 1,650 meters, which includes enough for a strip at each end. Along with the thread a 10 mm crochet hook was used.
