CJ's Flower Crochet Baby Blanket: Vintage Cluster Stitch Tutorial

CJ's Flower Blanket by Daisy Farm Crafts is a delicate white baby blanket with a story. It recreates a blanket made by Carole Jean, "CJ", the mother of Tiffany's friend Shauna. After CJ passed away, Shauna found an old photocopied pattern in her craft room, and Tiffany worked out the repeat so the blanket could be made again for CJ's new great-granddaughter. The clusters look like tiny flowers, which is how the blanket got its name.

The Flower Stitch

The flower stitch is a cluster pattern that looks a little like the star stitch, but it is easier to work. Each cluster gathers five double crochets together, worked into the small "eyes" left in the row below, so every new row of flowers nests neatly between the last. Once you have the rhythm, it is a relaxing, repetitive stitch.
