Yarn storage hacks – 7 top tips

Today we want to share with you a special post:
Safely Storing and Displaying Your Precious Yarn Stash
We spoke to some experts in the industry to get their top tips on keeping your yarn safe and secure.
Susan Cropper, the owner of Loop London (loopknitting.com), recommends using a wooden and glass cabinet to display and safeguard your yarn.
She advises keeping your yarn in a warm and dry place, away from direct sunlight, as prolonged exposure can cause fading, especially for hand-dyed yarns.
To prevent tangling, consider using drawer dividers made from corrugated plastic strips, as suggested by Stephanie Lau from allaboutami.com.
However, the risk of pests, especially moths, must not be overlooked. Moths thrive in dark and crowded spaces, so Laura Batten of woolbath.co.uk recommends using moth papers to keep them at bay.

Here are Susan's seven top tips for keeping your yarn stash safe and secure:
- Use clear zippered bags for storing yarn.
- Use small ziplock bags for partially used skeins and keep the ball band in the bag.
- Rewind yarn loosely if storing it for an extended period.
- Keep your yarn away from direct sunlight.
- Use large plastic boxes with lids for storing larger volumes of stash and label them by yarn weight or brand.
- Use a separate box for machine washable yarn if you knit baby items often.
- Use cedar balls or sachets to deter moths.
With these tips, you can ensure that your precious yarn stash stays in excellent condition and ready for your next project.
