The potter's wheel is a machine used to mold round ceramic pieces. Occasionally referred to as a "potter's wheel," it’s actually a different mechanism used for a modeling process. While this tool is invaluable for pottery, what can you do when you don’t have one? You might be surprised to learn that with intermediate pottery skills, you can still create a variety of ceramic crafts. Today, we’re excited to show you how to make a basic ceramic mug without using a wheel. Crafting a Ceramic Mug by Hand This project will only require a few hours of work and about a week of drying time before you can fire the mug. (Keep in mind, if you’re in a humid environment, it may take a bit longer to dry.) Once dried and fired, you can decorate the mug to your personal taste. Not only does this allow you to create custom pottery for yourself, but these handmade mugs also make wonderful personalized gifts.
