What do you need:
- Sand
- Polyvinyl Chloride Coating
- Aquarium sealer
- Spray foam insulation
- Koi, snails, frogs, toads
- Water Pump
- Lagoon heater (depends on the weather)

Instructions:
1. Plan a surface area of 50 square feet or more (such as an 8-foot diameter circle or a 5 x 10-foot rectangle) and a depth of 1 1/2 to 2 feet.
2. Cover the sides and bottom of the pond hole with 2 inches of wet sand. Cover this with a polyvinyl chloride coating, spreading the edges above the ground. We use additional pond liner material, plus aquarium sealant and spray foam insulation, to ensure a waterproof base.
3. Build the tank in partial shade; the strong sun makes the water very hot and allows the algae to flourish.
Note: If you live in an area with severe weather, bring your fish indoors in winter. In milder climates, fish can live under a foot of ice with a vent hole created by a pond heater, which is often referred to as a "floating defroster."
4. Add snails, frogs, frogs, and turtles to help control insects and algae.
5. For a waterfall, install a pump that runs at half the tank capacity per hour.
