Fish symbology
Chinese carp are very similar to salmon in that these species of fish are known for their perseverance while swimming upstream.
While swimming against the current is challenging, there is a force that is cultivated through it. The tent is a reminder that we can overcome difficulties and receive great rewards.
In Asia, there is a story of the carp that swam upstream and jumped through the dragon gate to transform into a mighty dragon.
In feng shui, we also observe that fish can maneuver freely, without hindrance. Fish that swim in water (like an aquarium) constantly move qi, creating more flow in their life.
Water element
The beauty of working with a feng shui aquarium is that it also includes the attributes of the water element in your feng shui setup.
Like fish, the water element is also connected to the flow of energy, wealth, and opportunities for you. Having an aquarium brings out the water element in a way that stays cool and circulates, with the inclusion of natural life (fish).

You can take some time to contemplate and design the Bagua feng shui map in your home. After selecting an area to work on, you can place the aquarium there to increase energy.

- Wealth area (Xun) if you want to work with wealth and prosperity.
- The running area (Kan) can be activated with a feng shui aquarium to create more energy and activity in your run.
- The family area (Zhen) would be useful to create movement with the beginning of new things and to have more smoothness in the family harmony.
A feng shui aquarium can also be placed in rooms with certain functions, such as:

Tips for aquariums
For an indoor feng shui aquarium, we generally recommend goldfish, which are a type of carp. They are especially auspicious for their golden color, which brings wealth and good luck.
But in general, if you like other types of fish, they can also be good at feng shui. Be sure to do your research to find a fish that you can properly care for.
How many fish?
The most important thing is that you have a tank that is the right size for the number of fish, the available space, and the maintenance time. It is not good for feng shui to have sick fish in a dirty tank that takes up too much space.
- Two can represent yin and yang. A pair of fish is one of the eight Buddhist symbols.
- Three represents new beginnings and family harmony.
- Five invites balance, as it is a reference to the five-element system
- Nine, or multiples of nine (if you have a huge tank), is the completion number and is the luckiest number in feng shui.
Balance the five elements
If you want to further increase the feng shui of your space, you can work with your aquarium to balance the five elements. For instance:
- Earth element with gravel and stones.
- The metallic element can be brought with metallic ornaments.
- The water element is the clean and fresh water in the aquarium.
- Wooden element with aquatic plants (fake plants also work)
- The fire element can be found in the fiery colors of goldfish, in lighting, and also in the life energy of fish.
