But what exactly are the standout trends when it comes to accent walls this year? Dulux took a look at the most used feature wall hashtags on Instagram (#GalleryWall, #FeatureWall, #AccentWall) to find the most liked images and analyzed the recurring trends among these top posts to discover the top 10 trends of the year.
The analysis found: paneled walls topped the list, appearing in 65 percent of top posts, geometric shapes appeared in 47 percent of top posts, while gray appeared in 38 percent of posts main.

Paneled walls are at the top of the list, and 65% of the publications reviewed feature them. Wall panels have made a comeback in recent years - they're available in a variety of styles and frames to suit your tastes, from subtle tabs and grooves to elegant geometric designs.
Why is it so popular? You can create an instant look of sophistication while covering or hiding uneven walls to create a clean slate to paint on and protect your walls from general wear and tear.
However, if you're not ready to handle DIY on your walls yet, you can get the paneled wall effect by adding some prepared MDF boards and painting over them. Or you can create the same effect with two similar shades of paint.
Geometric paint patterns
Geometric paint patterns have become extremely popular - it's a simple, low-cost way to create something truly unique. They rank second on Dulux's list, appearing in 47% of top publications.
"From simple, minimal designs to pretty, bold shapes that fill entire walls, all you need is tape or homemade stencils and your choice of paint colors to create something eye-catching and put your own personal stamp on your home,'' Dulux explains.
Combining a feature wall with a classic white wall
A splash of color can brighten and add personality to a drab setting, but when done deliberately, it's the contrast that's critical. 47 percent of top posts show that a wall with bold color accents can be a stark contrast to plain white walls to create a royal statement. In particular, deep teal, blue, or red can create an eye-catching modern look that really turns heads.
Smooth gray walls
Any surprises here? Gray has become one of the preferred ink colors due to its versatility, which is why it appears in 38 percent of major publications. Gray can be warm or cool, modern or traditional, calming or energetic, and it works with just about any color scheme.
"Try combining lighter shades of gray with darker blue colors for a refined and sophisticated look, or use bright yellows to add a spark of electricity and sunlight to your room," suggests Dulux.
Smooth walls without accessories
When it comes to creating a feature, the temptation may be to make a statement with shelves or framed photos to inject personality into your surroundings. But a simple wall of color can be just as impressive as one full of things to see. According to 41% of top publications, sometimes less is more.
