Magnolia walls

In the 1980s and 1990s, magnolia paint (a buttery cream, but a neutral color) named after the vanilla petals of the plant of the same name, could be found on almost every wall in any home and it was combined with almost all the furniture.
However, that color is now considered obsolete. Instead, paint the walls Scandinavian white or cool gray for a neutral but clean finish.
Tile countertops
Tile countertops were very popular in the 70s and 80s. Not only are they obsolete now, but the mortar is a breeding ground for dirt and bacteria.
If you have tile countertops, switch to natural stone or concrete.
Nautical motifs
Shells, anchors, and navy / white stripes should be avoided in the home.
Choose a light color palette and pair it with tasseled accessories like blankets and cushions.
Wicker furniture
Wicker furniture tends to reflect a beach theme, like linen sofas. At home, they can look sticky due to the texture.
The look fits much better outdoors than indoors.
Vertical blinds
Vertical curtains lack style and character, they are unattractive. Instead, switch to horizontal Roman shades or dainty shades for a stylish look.
Popcorn ceilings
Popcorn ceilings refer to the uneven texture 'that is used to make a smooth ceiling a standout feature, but this feature is set in the environment and can appear unsightly.
Potpourri
Potpourri has been around since the 1800s. Families often filled various bowls with fragrant petals around the house.
Now, however, with the popularity of vane diffusers and air nebulizers, the potpourri is out of date.
Heavy drapery
The heavy curtains were accompanied by matching ruffles and tie clips, which appeared voluminous and formal.
But recently, these heavy details have been simplified.
Window treatments should improve the home - hang the curtain rods higher to give the illusion that your windows are floor-to-ceiling and your room is airy.
Glass block walls
The glass block interior craze was popular in the 1980s, offering a level of privacy and allowing a constant flow of light, but innovations have made them bulky.
A simple glass curtain or door is lighter and still delivers the same results.
Word art
Word art is a trend that's been around for years - you won't be caught up in the wood pattern options at home decor stores.
However, the generic 'Home' signs posted in the rooms lack character and look tacky. Take the time to choose something that suits your décor and the overall aesthetic of the environment.
