Making Dowels Without a Lathe

I needed some large wooden dowels for a future project, so I decided to try different ways of making dowels without a lathe.

This was a super fun experiment, some fail, but in the end, I found out which method would work best for me.

The first method I tried was the tried-and-true tenon plate.

This is a metal plate with a series of different-sized holes to create different-sized dowels. This particular board ranges from 1/8 "to 5/8".

To use the peg plate, simply grind some broth to your desired peg diameter, sharpen one end with a knife or chisel to fit the hole, then tap the hole with a hammer.
