How to Make the Tunisian Strawberry Stitch: A Classic Stitch with a Pop of Texture
The Tunisian Strawberry Stitch is a classic stitch that has been making a comeback in modern crochet projects. It's a simple variation of the bobble stitch and adds a lot of texture and interest to any project.
With basic Tunisian and crochet skills, you can easily learn how to make this stitch.
To make the Tunisian Strawberry Stitch, you will need to have a basic knowledge of the Tunisian Bobble Stitch. First, begin by creating a foundation chain in multiples of two.
Then, work the Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS) across the foundation chain, just as you would for any Tunisian crochet project.
Next, work a Tunisian Bobble Stitch in the first stitch. To do this, insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, then repeat this process four more times.
You should have six loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all six loops to complete the bobble stitch.
Now, it's time to create the strawberry stitch. Begin by working a TSS in the next stitch. Then, work a Tunisian Simple Stitch Decrease (TSSD) in the next two stitches.
To do this, insert your hook into the first stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, then insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop.
You should have three loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all three loops to complete the decrease.
Next, work another TSS in the next stitch. Then, work another bobble stitch in the following stitch. Repeat this pattern across the row, ending with a TSS in the last stitch.
To work subsequent rows, simply work a TSS in each stitch across, and work a bobble stitch and a strawberry stitch in every other stitch.
The Tunisian Strawberry Stitch is a versatile stitch that can be used in a variety of projects, from blankets to scarves to hats.
With this simple variation of the bobble stitch, you can add a pop of texture and interest to your next crochet project.
