A 5-Step Plan For Getting (and Keeping) Your Workspace Organized

The pandemic has caused people to rethink the way they use their homes, especially their workplaces. If you didn't have a home office a year and a half ago, chances are you have one now.

If you already had a home office, maybe you've turned things around or made some clever additions to make it more permanent or productive (or both). Or maybe, like me, you've discovered how important it is to keep your home office clean.

If making sure your desk space isn't cluttered seems a bit boring to you, this five-step plan is for you.

1. Start with a clean sheet

If you're currently out of control, the first thing you'll want to do is reconfigure your office space. Clean everything on your desk at once, clean your desk and then decide what things (try to limit the number of people) that can remain on your desk. Save the rest.

2. Designate a location for the role

Organizing experts agree that paper is one of the biggest sources of clutter in your home office. Accept this and create a space for your article. A simple paper tray can help keep your workspace clear. But eventually, you'll have to deal with those roles... which brings us to step 3:

3. Set a time to handle all this role

Handle as many papers as you can right away. For everything else, set a regular schedule to take care of them so it doesn't become a chore. You can do this daily, every other day, or weekly, depending on how much paper you accumulate. Regardless, put the task on your calendar or to-do list.

4. Create a shutdown routine

Develop a cleaning ritual for when you leave the office during the day. Put away notebooks and pens, organize notebooks and diaries, collect cups and glasses of water to go, etc. This will help make the next step much easier.

5. Schedule a weekly cleaning

Plan to clean your office once a week. That way, you will remove all the little things left out, if any. Clean the surface of your lamps, shelves, and desks; clean hard surfaces when necessary; empty the trash; Aquatic plants; and empty.
