Clever Ways to Use Apple Cider Vinegar Around the House

Apple cider vinegar is a popular home remedy. People have used it for centuries in cooking and medicine, but this product is more than just your health. Discover these helpful ways to use apple cider vinegar at home.

Apple cider vinegar (also known as ACV) has been used in medicine for hundreds of years. Lately, people have been drinking apple cider vinegar directly to enjoy its benefits. After all, apple cider vinegar has several health benefits. Natural remedies aside, here are ten other ways to use apple cider vinegar that don't involve drinking it.

1. Prescription substitute

While you're at it, how about you substitute white vinegar in your meat recipes? We got the idea from a Taste of Home commenter, bbowner, who raved about how well it worked on this Carolina-style vinegar-roasted chicken.

"I used a pork tenderloin with half cider vinegar and half white vinegar, panela and a teaspoon of chicken sausage and a teaspoon of beef ingot, it cooked for six hours and was delicious," he writes.

Since the two ingredients are very similar, this is an easy change. In fact, that's the difference between apple cider and white vinegar.

2. Window cleaner

To clean your windows and glass surfaces without alcohol or other chemicals, mix a quarter cup of ACV with a pint of water in a spray bottle and use as you would the blue substance.

Stock up on ACV so you don't have to worry about relying on your old cleaner ever again. Try these other recipes for natural cleaning products at home.

3. Flytrap

If you have flies in your kitchen, here's Maid Brigade's LCA-based solution: “Clean and dry all wet areas and remove any stale fruit, spoiled food, or trash from your home.

Next, make a mixture of soap and apple cider vinegar in a small mug or pitcher. Flies will be attracted to the mixture and will be trapped in the solution. "

4. Mold Killer

For an effective mold killer that doesn't rely on harsh chemicals, mix apple cider vinegar with a few drops of tea tree essential oil. Spray on the mold and let it dry.

"Vinegar alone kills most fungi, but if you don't like the smell of vinegar, tea tree oil will remove that smell and add even more antimicrobial strength," according to the Maid Brigade.

5. Wood floor cleaner

You may already know that you can use apple cider vinegar to clean vinyl and ceramic tile (use one cup of ACV for one gallon of warm water).

But did you know that you can clean your hardwood floors with the same solution? Just be sure to wring out the mop as much as possible and to dry the floor immediately with a soft cloth.

6. Sink deodorant

Apple cider vinegar can clean and deodorize drains. Just pour a quarter cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by a half cup of apple cider vinegar. Let stand for half an hour and then add hot water.

7. Dish cleaner

To make your fine crockery shine without damaging it, mix baking soda with a few drops of detergent and enough ACV to make a paste. You can also use apple cider vinegar to clean the slow cooker.
