Discover The Most Common Feng Shui Decorating Mistakes

Some of the worst feng shui mistakes are made in an honest attempt to create a better environment that attracts positive chi energy.

Unfortunately, the wrong placement of feng shui images and other feng shui mistakes make it impossible to have the kind of energy flow you need and want in your home.

The good news is that once you are aware of these errors, you can easily correct them! If you are interested in applying feng shui principles to your home, here is a list of the most common decorating mistakes.

Dried, dying, or diseased flowers and plants

Live green plants and fresh flowers bring positive life energy to a home and are great for feng shui. But that does not apply to diseased flowers and plants. This also includes natural elements that are preserved and/or dried. They are no longer alive, so they do not offer any vital energy.

If a plant is sick, do your best to cure it, but remember that sick plants pose challenges for the inhabitants of the house.

Dried lavender in your closet is fine. It is not a feng shui decoration. And sometimes people keep flowers that are very meaningful to them, like their dried wedding bouquet. It is good to have this as it is precious to you. But, it is not something you would use for feng shui purposes.

Sharp, thorny, or pointed plants

Along with plants, if you are using a plant as a feng shui cure, it is best to avoid plants that have sharp leaves or needles. Also, thorny plants are not recommended. In feng shui, these shapes create sharp energy that most people want to avoid. Instead, we prefer soft, rounded sheets that will invite soft, gentle energy into your home.

But, for example, if you have a cactus that you love, it is acceptable to have some plants in your house that you tend to that are not necessarily for feng shui use.

A bed without a headboard

In feng shui practice, you should have a headboard that is securely attached to the bed and against a solid wall. It is not good feng shui to just have a mattress was thrown on the floor or a bed floating in space. The header strengthens, supports, and connects. This applies to your relationships, your well-being, and your life in general.

Broken or darkened mirrors

Mirrors are very symbolic in most cultures. When they are flat and clear, they can expand your vision and reflect inner teachings to the viewer. Therefore, broken or darkened mirrors will not tell the truth. Broken mirrors are also dangerous and can cause accidents. If possible, work with clear, polished mirrors that reflect clearly.

Bagua mirror

Many people have seen these Bagua mirrors floating around Chinatown. They usually consist of a round mirror with an octagonal frame, painted with symbols and other elements. A Bagua mirror is used to deflect unwanted energies.

Unfortunately, this sacred feng shui object is often lost. Bagua mirrors should never be used in the interior decoration of a home. It is always located outside a house.

Storage under the bed

While it makes practical sense, it is not good for feng shui to have under-bed storage. This applies to storage boxes, loose storage, beds with built-in storage (such as drawers), etc. You spend many hours sleeping on all this and it affects you.

Under-bed storage can create subconscious blocks in many areas of your life, including your romantic relationships. If possible, you don't want anything under the bed. In feng shui, we want energy to flow easily around you. And if you really need to store things under the bed, choose soft sleep-related items like pillows, blankets, and fluffy sheets.

Blocked doors

It is best to avoid placing anything behind a door that will prevent the door from opening at least 90 degrees. Even if you have good hooks that are neat without clutter, if the door cannot be opened at least 90 degrees, it is not good feng shui.

On the mundane level, it becomes difficult and stressful to walk through that door. On an energetic level, it limits the good energy and opportunities it can receive.
