A Very Simple Guide To Understand The Feng Shui Bagua
The Bagua is the energy map of feng shui. It is one of the basic principles of feng shui practice and one of the most powerful tools we use.
Bagua offers a systematic way to assess the energy field of your environment. Bagua literally means "eight areas" in Chinese.
Therefore, the Bagua are eight areas around a center. These areas are connected to different aspects of life. Each gua (or area) also has many other layered meanings, such as colors, elements, shapes, organs, and more.

The ancient Chinese developed Bagua along with many other philosophies.
The principles of yin and yang, the I-Ching, the five elements (and more) are intertwined and are the basis of the Bagua.
The Bagua Map
The Bagua is sometimes represented as an octagon, other times as a square. In both cases, Bagua consists of eight areas around a center.
The Bagua is a compass that indicates areas of life and many other symbolic meanings, as this image above identifies each guide by its corresponding I-ching trigram.
In general, the Bagua is an energy network that you can place on a floor plan. Most of the time, I would place this throughout the house (the main floor plan).
What most people don't know is that Bagua is a concept map that can be superimposed not only on your entire home, but also on a single room, your bedroom or office, a desk, or even your face.
Or your property, your block, your city, and more as it grows. The energy network contracts and expands, but always remains in a three-by-three network of equal proportion (like a Tic-o-Tip).
How is Bagua applied?
Your first step is to apply Bagua to the plan of your house (the main floor). Different schools of feng shui use the same Bagua but overlap it differently.
- We will guide you on how to use Bagua according to BTB Feng Shui school.
- Use a floor plan that is the exact size of your house (or room).
- Rotate the plant so that the wall with the front door is at the bottom.
- Overlap a three-by-three grid, with the bottom of the grid flush with the wall with the front door.
- Make sure the grid is evenly spaced.
- Locate all areas to match Bagua. Note: People with knowledge, career, and help should be flush with the bottom (wall with front door).
If you have a complicated floor plan, try applying it to your bedroom. The rooms are usually on a regular basis, which makes everything easier.
Also, the most effective place to work on your feng shui is your bedroom, because it is the closest space to you. So even if you put it all over your house, we suggest you try Bagua in your room as well.
If you're still having trouble, it's best to hire a feng shui consultant for personalized guidance.
Lost and Extended Bagua Areas
Unless you have a rectangular or square home, you will probably notice that your home will not fit the Bagua grid very well.
If there are points in your design where there is a cutout inside the Bagua, it may not be
Or if there is a space that extends from Bagua, it could be what we call an extension.
This could indicate that the lost or extended Bagua area may need additional attention in your lifetime.
For Missing Areas: This can usually be corrected by placing a mirror or plants in the area in question.
For extensions: generally positive as long as it is in balance with the whole plan. It basically means that you have more energy in the Bagua area.
A feng shui consultant can help you determine the areas and/or extensions that are missing and if you need remediation.
