How to Host a Gender Reveal Party
Maybe it's time to admit that baby showers are becoming a thing of the past. A baby shower is almost a relic of an event.
Of course, we try to press the envelope with coed baby showers. However, let's face it, inviting the guys to a function that was actually designed for a same-sex event just doesn't work that well. So what's next? The genre reveals the party.
This new fad is actually quite a simple idea: you host a party with all the people you want to invite, regardless of gender, and they celebrate together while revealing their baby's gender.
Find the Perfect Decorations for Every Celebration!
This can be a big event or an intimate gathering just for your closest friends and family. You can do this with dinner, or just with sandwiches and cake.
There are no rules for this event. People just want to share their good news in a special and memorable way, and they want to share it with the people they care about. And food, there has to be some form of food.
The big reveal
This is where the highlight of the party is located. You don't want to start the party at 2:00 PM and make the announcement at 2:01 PM.
You have to let the tensions grow and grow; let the guests feed on each other. Many people who organized these parties had a count or a way of identifying themselves as a boy or girl on the team.
Once this is done, it is time for everyone to know if there is a girl or a boy on the way. By far the most common way seems to be the use of food.
Usually, it is a cake. Sometimes, there is a single frosting or multi-colored frosting on the outside and the inside has revealed a color that indicates a boy or a girl.
(In many cases parents don't know it either. In fact, they take a sealed note straight from the ultrasound to a bakery and pick up the cake, and they immediately notice as guests.)
Other ideas may include:
- Balloons filled with pink or blue confetti
- A bunch of helium balloons in a box rises when opened
- Mom lifts a shirt to reveal a painted message
- A father dropped his drawers in front of revealed colorful boxers
- A bird's egg with a hidden message inside
- Open an envelope that reveals the answer
- Have someone else make an announcement (maybe with a poem)
- More creative ways to reveal your baby's gender
Obviously, some of these ideas require more time and effort to plan a party. If this is something you are excited about, you may be willing to use these ideas.
A reveal that guests see most easily is often the biggest blockbuster. Otherwise, you run the risk of groups of people saying, "What did she say?"
Gifts
Should you have presents? If it is in place of the baby shower, what is the problem with the gifts?
However, expect gender-neutral baby gifts, as no one will know in advance what is going on. Maybe that means a diaper bath or book bath is more your speed.
Although the label hasn't written these rules yet, you can test the waters yourself.
Party Favors
The idea of being able to hand out buttons, team banners, or mini bows or mustaches as a way to show support for your “team” is very appealing to some.
However, if you don't want to hand out favors, it's not entirely necessary, just something fun to add to the party atmosphere.
