How to Throw a Proper English Tea Party

Anyone with the slightest interest in British etiquette knows that tea is at the center of many social occasions. It is something that must be done correctly, or it is not a proper English tea.

From afternoon tea to afternoon tea, knowing the correct way to serve and drink is essential. Whether you are the host or guest of a tea party, there are certain rules that you need to learn and practice before joining.

Types of tea parties in English

Understand the different types of tea events. All can be informal or more formal, but it is rarely acceptable to greet or attend in sweatpants or jeans and sneakers. Even the most casual tea party requires a nice dress or pants and a blouse that you can wear to the office.

Afternoon Tea: Also known as "low tea", afternoon tea is enjoyed at a low table, such as a coffee or tea table in the living room. It is a more relaxed atmosphere than afternoon tea, but it is not necessarily more informal.

How to install an ice-proof faucet

The surest way to prevent an external faucet from freezing is to replace a standard faucet with a frost-proof one, known as a sill faucet.

These taps are controlled by a long rod that extends into the house, where a cartridge or compression valve controls the flow of water. Since the valve itself is located in a safe place in the house, it is almost impossible for it to freeze.

A freeze-proof faucet is a 6 to 20-inch unit with a hose faucet and control handle at one end and a connector at the other end of the pipe to connect to the indoor water pipe.

As an added safety measure, these taps are designed to drain automatically; When you close the tap, the residual water on the long stem will drain from the tube.

These faucets can be attached to the pipe with a compression, welded, PEX, or push-fit fitting. For most people, it is best to buy a faucet with a push-fit connector, such as the one from the SharkBite brand. This will be the easiest to install as it requires no welding and can be used with any type of water supply pipe.

If you have problems to find a freezing proof turn with a push-fit connector, you can use a standard threaded type and, then, use a female threaded-to-push-fit transition box for uni-lo ao cano of water.

If you have PEX tubing in your home, there are also anti-freeze taps equipped with PEX-type connectors.

Turn off and drain the water

Turn off the water in the supply line leading to the outside tap. If the water line does not have its own control valve, you must turn off the water throughout the house using the main house shutoff valve.

Open the external faucet and drain the remaining water from the supply tube.

Remove the old faucet

To remove the spout from the external faucet, start by removing all mounting screws and then turn the spout counterclockwise to unscrew it from the end of the tube. You may need to use channel locking pliers to open the faucet.

Measure for the new tap

Follow the instructions on the anti-ice faucet to measure and mark the cutting water supply tube. You will need to measure from the outside surface of the wall, where the faucet flange will be, and continue inside along the water line to the point where the faucet rod will connect to the water line.

Snap-in plumbing fixtures generally require an additional 1 inch of length to insert the pipe into the fixture.

Prepare the water supply pipe

Due to the long valve stem on a freeze-proof faucet, it is often necessary to cut the water supply pipe where the faucet pipe will connect. Use a pipe cutter (for copper pipes), a saw (for galvanized steel or PVC pipes) or a PEX pipe cutter for PEX pipes. Remove and discard the cut section of pipe coming out of the house.

Deburr the inside and outside of the cut end of the water supply line with sandpaper or sandpaper. Make sure the outside of the tube is clean and smooth so that it can accept the fitting on the new freeze-proof faucet.

Mark the end of the tube at the insertion distance specified by the manufacturer (usually approximately 1 inch from the cut end of the tube).
