Visit Graycliff to taste chocolate, cigars, and more
Don't be fooled by the name Graycliff Hotel and Restaurant.
There is much more here than rooms and food. Sure, the accommodations in and around this historic colonial mansion are excellent and it's a real throwback in time when you walk in, but this Nassau attraction is so much more than just a guesthouse and restaurant.
Even if you are not a hotel guest, you will want to add this hotspot to your itinerary.
The Garzaroli family has turned this hillside location in downtown Nassau into a virtual entertainment complex, with a chocolatier where you can sample and even make fine chocolate delicacies and a cigar company where cigars are hand-rolled on-site. and can be combined with rum tastings.
There's also an on-site pizzeria and Bahamian heritage museum, and don't forget to order a tour of Graycliff's incredible winery, filled with over 250,000 bottles.
Taste rum at the John Watling Distillery
Nothing is more Caribbean than visiting a local rum factory. Just steps from the Graycliff Hotel and the iconic Pink Government House, the John Watling Distillery is located on the spacious Buena Vista Estate.
Founded in 1789, it is a taste of the ancient Bahamas in the heart of Nassau. Speaking of tasting, you can sample Watling's small-batch cask-aged rums, which come in a single cask, five-year-old "clear" (white), amber, and "Buena Vista" varieties.
The distillery is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm, and tours to see how the rum is produced are completely free.
But don't leave your wallet at home, as you won't be able to leave without stopping by the distillery bar to sample some of this local rum.
You're on vacation, after all, so feel free to indulge yourself.
Take a snorkeling trip at Stuart's Cove
The Stuart's Cove dive operation is located on the less-visited southwest side of New Providence Island, in a welcoming cove that is continually bustling with activity.
Beginners take scuba lessons while experienced divers prepare for open water adventures; the latter includes the opportunity to dive with wild sharks.
Other options include snorkeling and SNUBA (a cross between snorkeling and diving).
