Discover 5 The Best Things to Do in Auckland!
1. Visit the Sky Tower for a 360-degree view
It seems that every big city needs some kind of monolithic landmark, like the Empire State Building in New York, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, or the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai.
The Auckland edition is the Sky Tower, a 1,076-foot structure with an observation deck, restaurant, and cafe on top.
The bravest visitors can walk outside while tied to a safety rope, or they can jump over the side.
For the less adventurous, there's the SKYCITY entertainment complex below, which is home to dozens of restaurants, a theater, and a casino.
2. Wine Tasting on Waiheke Island
New Zealand is known for its wines and there are dozens of wineries and vineyards in Auckland.
Some of the best are on Waiheke Island, which is just a 35-minute ferry ride from Auckland.
While you can easily occupy a day or two with hiking, relaxing on the beach, visiting artist studios, or exploring historical WWII sites, we suggest that you make the most of a short trip with a visit to the island's wineries such as Stonyridge, Man O 'War Vineyards and Goldie Estate, among others.
3. Climbing a Volcano on Rangitoto Island
Rising out of the water in the Hauraki Gulf looms Rangitoto Island, a 5.4-mile-wide shield volcano, one of 48 volcanoes in the Auckland area.
Take a 25-minute ferry ride from Auckland to the island, then choose from the many activities available there.
For those who want to spend more time in the water, we recommend canoeing in the sea, but for those who want to explore the land, walk or ride an ATV to the top of the volcano.
Check the lava tubes on your way up.
4. Go to The Museum of the Jump
Auckland is full of museums for all interests, and it will take you a few days to see them all.
Some of the highlights include the Auckland War Memorial Museum, which is dedicated to telling the history of New Zealand, from its people to its geography; the Maritime Museum of New Zealand; the Museum of Transport and Technology; and the Auckland Art Gallery, Toi or Tamaki.
5. Get Your Emotions at the End of the Rainbow
Rainbow's End is New Zealand's largest theme park, offering everything from thrilling rides to family entertainment.
The bravest visitors can conquer Stratosfear, an attraction that turns cyclists upside down. (It is one of the only ones in the world).
And visitors looking for a less adrenaline-pumping experience can visit Kidz Kingdom, which has attractions that are just as fun but less overwhelming.
