Find Out Fun Things to Do with Kids in Laval, Quebec!
A 35 minute drive from downtown Montreal, Laval is the city’s largest suburb - but it stands on its own when it comes to things to do. If you’re considering heading outside of the city to experience more of the beautiful province of Quebec, Laval boasts a wide variety of family fun, from outdoor activities to indoor attractions that are perfect for all ages.
1. Take a Trip into Space
Since 1994, the Cosmodome has been Quebec's premier destination for future astronauts and their science-loving families. With immersive virtual missions and virtual reality experiences that take visitors into the daily life of a cosmonaut, families can also take a tour inside a replica spaceship, visit a space museum, experience NASA-like simulators, and more. The Cosmodome also offers its own summer camp for aspiring space travelers. Kids will be delighted with the vast collection of space memorabilia and replicas on display, including a spacesuit from the famous Apollo 13. Be sure to visit the gift shop before you go out and take home a bag of dried space food.
2. Go Indoor Skydiving
Ready to defy the laws of gravity? Since opening in 2009, SkyVenture has been the go-to place for adventure junkies ages 4-90. This vertical wind tunnel is perfectly safe for even the most inexperienced skydivers, offering one-on-one flights with qualified instructors who never leave the flight room and only release if they feel comfortable. The facility is geared toward beginners, families looking for a new challenge, and the general skydiving community, who come to the facility to train during the winter months when skydiving is not possible.
3. Drop the Puck
It's no secret that Quebecers live and breathe hockey. While his beloved National Hockey League team, the Montreal Canadiens, play at the Bell Center in downtown Montreal, Laval's minor league hockey team, Laval Rocket, plays at the new Place Bell. The 10,000-seat arena is the perfect place to catch a Rocket game, and possibly even a future superstar - the Rockets are a feeder team for the NHL, so their players can be called up to the big leagues. The arena also hosts concerts and offers free time slots to skate on its Olympic ice rink.
4. Hit the Waves – Without Getting Soaked
Surfing in Canada? It's real and you can try it indoors at Maeva Surf. Inside this tiki-themed covered surf center, novice and experienced surfers of all ages can hang out side by side under the guidance of seasoned instructors. Young children can start bodyboarding, then work their way up to standing on a surfboard and riding a simulated wave. Adults who choose not to participate can relax and have a pina colada at the well-stocked downtown bar, and if riding those waves makes you hungry, Maeva Surf also serves food.
5. Go Kayaking
One of the best-preserved wildlife sanctuaries in the Montreal region, Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles is the perfect place to get up close and personal with birds, beavers, turtles and more. Families can rent a canoe, kayak, rabaska, pedal boat or row boat to explore the islands around the archipelago, as well as go ashore for a sightseeing excursion. Keep your eyes peeled for the former mansion of Canadian icon Céline Dion, visible from the river. In addition to boating, the park also offers guided family fishing, skiing, snowshoeing, and ice skating during the winter months.
6. Climb to All New Heights
Challenge the family to a friendly climbing competition at Escalade Clip 'n Climb de Laval, a climbing gym for all ages. The gym offers a variety of climbs from beginners to advanced levels, and each wall features a different theme. Fear of heights? Don't worry: in addition to being always hooked, all walls are equipped with safety devices that will gently lower climbers to the ground.
7. Hop Around
If you're looking for a safe way to burn off energy and make everyone smile, Laval's trampoline center, iSaute, is the place to go. The former warehouse-turned-gym has 10,000 square feet of trampolines attached, which means you probably shouldn't eat until you get there. The center has sections for classic jumps, trampoline basketball and high-flying dodgeball, as well as foam pits for doing cartwheels and other tricks. Younger children have their own playground where they can jump into an enclosed, monitored space.
8. Go Mini-Golfing
Looking for a miniature golf experience that you won't soon forget? Putting Edge is an 18-hole course that spans two floors of swirling kaleidoscopic glow in dark colors. While the golf course is great for taking photos, it also has a game room stocked with old-school video games that children and adults will enjoy. Each round of miniature golf lasts approximately 45 minutes, with a maximum of 4 players per hole.
