Leather Shopping in Buenos Aires

In a country that loves beef, it should come as no surprise that there are many Argentine stores that sell the by-product: leather! Few countries in the world offer the selection of leather goods available in Argentina.

Many stores can customize jackets and other items for interested customers, so ask if something catches your eye but is not your size or color. Most stores can do this in a day or two, although to avoid disappointment, start shopping early. You won't find the deals your friends might have told you if they went to Argentina in the early 2000s, but the prices are still generally reasonable.

If you are looking for quality, well-designed leather goods, particularly women's shoes, accessories, and bags, few places beat the selection in the capital of Buenos Aires!

Where to buy

In particular, we must think of the neighborhood of the skin of Murillo street, in the neighborhood of Villa Crespo, on the border with Palermo Viejo. Below are some places in the district, including Murillo 666, one of the largest. Items are usually made on top of the window or by the fence. The largest concentration of stores here is Murillo between Acevedo and Malaria, and the entire area has a few dozen stores.

You can find everything from leather jackets to bags, suitcases, furniture, and more. Many stores are owned by Orthodox Jews and will close early on Fridays and Saturdays, along with public holidays.
Remember this if your vacation is during one of the Jewish holidays.

Here are some favorites. Ask your hotel about the myriad of other options or browse shopping maps and brochures like the Go Palermo shopping map series or Buenos Aires Maps.
