The Best Beaches in Morocco
While many visitors are initially drawn to Morocco by dreams of treasure-filled souks and starry nights in the Sahara Desert, the country also has more than its fair share of stunning beaches.
There are two coasts to choose from: the tranquil Mediterranean with its safe swimming beaches and mild water temperatures, or the wild beauty and rich culture of the windswept Atlantic coast.
We will take a look at the best options for a Moroccan beach vacation.
It is up to you to decide if you want to add an extra week (or three) to visit the attractions in the interior of the country.

1. Tagharte Beach, Essaouira
Located on the central Atlantic coast of Morocco, Tagharte Beach is the main beach of the famous resort of Essaouira.
It has Blue Flag status in recognition of its cleanliness and water quality and boasts 6 miles (10 kilometers) of beautiful golden sand.
With so much space, there is room for everyone, even in high season.
The water is relatively cold and there are better beaches for swimming on this list, but for high-octane water sports, Tagharte has few rivals.
Essaouira is famous for its strong winds, which create excellent conditions throughout the year for windsurfing, surfing, and kitesurfing.
Sign up for a class or rent a board at one of the local surf shops; or join the locals to play beach soccer. Horseback riding and camel rides are also offered.
2. Sidi Kaouki Beach, Sidi Kaouki
The laid-back surf town of Sidi Kaouki is located 25 kilometers south of Essaouira.
Its beach is a quieter and wilder alternative to Tagharte; And with the same strong winds from the Atlantic, it is a great alternative when the waves on the larger beach are too crowded.
Enjoy picturesque sand dunes, long stretches of sand, and basic amenities including loungers and surfboards for rent.
The ubiquitous horses and camels can also be found here. Take a walk north of the beach to discover interesting natural pools at low tide or head south to a small river where wild flamingos are often seen in winter.
If you decide to stay longer, Sidi Kaouki is known for its quality backpacker accommodation and authentic local cafes.
3. Saidia Beach, Saidia
The resort town of Saïdia is located in northern Morocco, near the Algerian border.
It is relatively remote from international visitors, but seasoned Moroccans flock here in summer to enjoy the Blue Flag award-winning Saïdia beach.
At 14 kilometers (8.5 miles), it is one of the longest beaches in the country and its Mediterranean setting means that the water is always warm and the weather is pleasantly mild, even in summer.
Relax, go swimming or have a picnic to enjoy in the groves of mimosa and eucalyptus.
To the west of the beach is the Moulouya National Park, while Saïdia has a wide range of services, including a marina, an 18-hole golf course, and a selection of 5-star resorts.
