There are some wonderful theme parks around the world, but how do you select the best of the best? Some might argue that those generating the most assistance should get approved.
Using the number of visitors as a criterion, Disney theme parks would dominate the list.
As the most popular parks on the planet, they regularly rank eight of the top ten spots on the annual attendance charts.
To broaden the scope, we use a different metric.
Every two years, the amusement and theme park industry honors one of its own with the Liseberg Applause Award. Named after Sweden's Liseberg park, where the award originated in 1980, an international panel of experts recognizes the parks for their excellence, originality, aesthetics, success, and other standards.
The award is presented at the IAAPA Expo, the world's largest trade fair and gathering of professionals from the parks and attractions industry.
The majority of the Liseberg Applause Award winners are located in the US, Therefore, many of those listed below, representing a sample of the award winners, are US parks. presented in no particular order.

1. Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Florida
The first park to receive the Liseberg Applause Award, Magic Kingdom is also the most popular park in the world, generating more than 20 million visitors each year.
The east coast version of Walt Disney's original Disneyland park features classic attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean, Dumbo, Flying Elephant, and Jungle Cruise.
It also offers more exciting attractions that are part of its "mountain range," including Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain, and The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

2. Europe park
The huge park features 15 themed lands from European countries, including Russia, Luxembourg, and Switzerland.

Founded by the Mack family, who also operate the design and manufacturing company, Mack Rides, Europe-Park serves as a proving ground and showcase for their roller coasters and other attractions.
The destination complex also includes six hotels and a campground.
3. Silver Dollar City
Something of a hidden gem outside of the US Midwest, Silver Dollar City offers world-class roller coasters, quality Broadway shows, and some of the best food served in a theme park (try the heavenly Family Feud Succotash at Buckshot's Skillet Cookery).
The park is inspired by the United States of the 1880s and includes displays of crafts from the period. Featured rides include the incredible Time Traveler "controlled spin" roller coaster and the new age wooden roller coaster Outlaw Run.
Consider visiting Marvel Cave, the natural wonder that gave birth to Silver Dollar City.
4. Cedar Point
Cedar Point is more of an amusement park than a theme park, and yes, there is a difference. Dating back to 1870, Cedar Point has expanded and evolved considerably and is now considered one of the world's must-see roller coaster parks.
Among its exciting, highly publicized and record-breaking machines are the hybrid steel and wood roller coaster, Steel Vengeance; the 420-foot-tall, 190-km/h Top Thrill Dragster; and Magnum XL-200, the first hyper roller coaster to exceed the 60-meter limit.
The park sits on a picturesque peninsula along Lake Erie and also includes an outdoor water park with a separate entrance, an indoor water park, other accommodations, a beach, and a marina.
5. Efteling
A near Disney-level park, Efteling features some extraordinary and elaborate dark attractions, including the Symbolica with the royal palace theme; a boat trip to the farthest corners of the Middle East, Fata Morgana; and a trip to an enchanted forest, Droomvlucht.
Among its impressive collection of thrilling rides are the Baron 1898-themed roller coaster and the Max & Moritz two-lane motorized roller coaster.
Set in the countryside, Efteling takes on a fairytale forest theme.
The destination complex includes hotels, vacation homes, and an 18-hole golf course.
