Top 3 Budget Travel Hacks

Hello, how are you today? Welcome to our blog About Travel. We hope you are very well and looking forward to a new post, travel video, or a new place to know or visit.

Today we want to share with you something special:

Here are our top hacks for traveling on a budget!

If you could design a billboard, it would be: “Don't let money stop you from traveling. It is possible to see the world on a limited budget. “My husband and I have been traveling the world for a year now and we have become the king and queen of budget travel. On average, we spend less than $ 70 a day for two people. And that includes accommodation! Do you want to know how we do it?

1. How to save money on flights

This may sound crazy, but you can save up to hundreds of dollars on your entire trip if you book your flight and hotel at the same time. It's true! When my husband and I went to Mexico last year, we saved a lot of money by making a package. And they are much more customizable than you think.
When looking for package deals, first choose a hotel and then add flights. Once you have done that, the website will show you how much money you are saving by making the full reservation. Sometimes the savings are so great that your flight is basically free. Punctuation!

2. How to save money on hotels

If a package doesn't make sense to you (you may need a one-way or multi-city flight), there are still plenty of ways to save money on hotels.

When searching for hotels, I always use the "Price per night" filter in the left sidebar. I select less than $ 75 per night and sort the results by "Guest Rating" to show the best options at the top. This allows me to see higher quality but more affordable options. If the options at the top are still too expensive, I use the "Accommodation Type" filter and select "Hostel / Backpacker accommodation". This generally brings even cheaper options.

3. How to save money on food

After booking flights and hotels, the next biggest cost is almost always food. Especially if you eat three meals a day (more snacks!).
For breakfast, we save money by going to the nearest supermarket and buying cheap yogurt, cold cuts, pastries, and coffee. No need to sit down for breakfast as we are always impatient to get out and wander anyway!

For lunch, we save by looking for restaurants with special lunch prices. Many places have a cheaper lunch menu than the dinner menu. Sometimes the food is the same! So you can enjoy the same food for a fraction of the price.

For dinner, it can be more difficult to find cheap restaurants. But we have a trick to find them quickly. We take the nearest wifi (or use a SIM card) and open Google Maps. Then we type 'restaurant' in the search bar. The app displays nearby locations that you can click to see photos, opening hours, and reviews. Sometimes there is a link to their website so you can click on it to see the menu and prices as well. Of course, you can also use Yelp and search by price. But we find that Google Maps is better for finding places close to our current location.

Other tips

To keep track of our expenses while traveling, I keep track of all purchases in the notes app on my phone. I write down the cost of each meal, bus ticket, museum admission, ice cream cone, and any other purchases. It helps me understand how much we spend on the road, so I'm not surprised by the end of our trip.

Also, before leaving for our trip, we sit down and make a budget. We consider the maximum amount of money we want to spend (it always varies depending on the destination) and we divide it by the number of days we spend there. This gives us an average daily budget to reach and we try to stick to it. Some days we are over budget and other days we are under budget. As long as our daily average is within target, we are happy travelers!

No matter what type of trip you are on, there are ways to save money. If you are going to a place for a fixed period of time, business packages are the way to go. If you're traveling to multiple cities, your best bet is to search for individual hotel deals. And when you're on the go, eat cheap and keep track of your purchases. You will be surprised how much you save.
