How To Clean Your Radiators
Today we want to share with you something special:
Maximize the heat output of your radiator with these smart cleaning tips!
Radiators are an essential part of any heating system, but they often go overlooked when it comes to cleaning. Dust, dirt, and grime can accumulate on radiators over time, not only making them less efficient but also contributing to indoor air pollution.
With spring cleaning season here, now is the perfect time to give your radiators the attention they need.
Make Cleaning Easy with These Top Picks!
To keep your radiators working efficiently and to control allergens, it's important to make cleaning them a regular part of your cleaning regimen.
Cleaning radiators can be a bit of a hassle, but with a little knowledge and the right tools, you can do it like a pro. By making it a weekly habit to clean your radiators, you'll ensure they work more efficiently and you will be able to keep the allergens at bay.
Step 1: Turn Off the Heater
First, turn off the heat and let the radiator cool down. In addition to being safer, it prevents the radiator from removing more dust during cleaning.
Step 2: Vacuum the Interior
Next, take your vacuum cleaner to remove as much dust as possible in and around the radiator. It can be difficult to get into the radiator fins while cleaning, but this is where the smaller vacuum tubes will come in handy. Try to vacuum the dust from behind, not forgetting under the radiator and where it meets the wall.
Step 3: Use a Cloth
After removing all the dust, place a towel under the radiator and use a cleaning brush to remove any remaining dirt trapped inside. You can use a specialized radiator cleaning brush or make your own by wrapping a microfiber cloth around a piece of wood. Simply insert it into the radiator to remove hidden dirt.
Step 4: Rinse Rith Water
Then fill a bucket with warm soapy water. Use a soft sponge to clean the exterior (anything that is too abrasive can scratch the surface of your radiator). Make sure your cloth is damp, but not dripping, and wipe it properly.
For those stains that are more difficult to remove, leave a solution to spray for a few minutes and then simply wipe clean. You'll have an awesome radiator in no time! Don't forget to dry afterward, being careful not to lose any corners or connectors.
Step 5: Don't Forget The Footers
After cleaning the radiator, don't forget the baseboards. Get a great shine and finish with a bucket of soapy water to clean them.
