Things You Are Cleaning Too Often

For most of us, finding ways to reduce cleaning time by keeping our home tidy and hygienic is welcome information. Believe it or not, there are things or places in your home that you can clean very often (surprisingly, we know, considering you probably think otherwise).
So put down the sponge or broom (for now at least) and enjoy the time you used to spend cleaning just to relax and have fun!
Clothing
If it seems like you spend most of your free time in the laundry, you're probably doing it too often. Unless you have a very dirty job, sweat a lot, or are sloppy, and drop food everywhere, most clothing can be worn more than once.

There are exceptions, of course. Underwear, socks, workout gear, and anything else worn close to the body should be washed after each use.
But think about how many fewer loads of clothes you could wash if everyone in your household didn't throw a shirt into the hamper after trying it on or if they had time to hang up their clothes after putting them on so they don't grab it.
It will end up in a terrifying pile on your floor or chair, which inevitably almost always ends up on your clothes. You will have free time and you will save on electricity, water and laundry products.
Dirty plates
Skip the sink service after a meal. You're wasting time and water rinsing dirty dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. You can even end up with dishes that are not clean at the end of the dishwasher cycle.
Powdered detergents, liquids, and dishwasher tablets contain enzymes that stick to food particles to dissolve mess and allow the action of the water spray to wash them away. When you wash the dishes beforehand, the detergent doesn't stick and just goes to waste.
Think of all that water you use to wash dishes. We bet that you leave the tap running throughout the process. This can waste more than 6,000 gallons of water a year.
It is important to scrape large amounts of food before putting dishes in the dishwasher. And you shouldn't leave dirty dishes in the sink or washing machine for days. If you have a half-full dishwasher and want to wait until the next meal to complete the wash cycle, run a 'Rinse Only' cycle. You will even save time and water.
Bedspreads, duvets and duvets
Covers are difficult to clean due to their size. So unless you live in your bed or have a lot of pets that do, you don't need to wash them weekly. Instead, clean them at the end of each season.
Check the fabric care label because most bedding is washable. If you don't have a large front-loading washer, take large items to the laundry. For just a few dollars, you'll have clean bedding in less than an hour.
If you and your pets live in your bed, cover heavy bedding with a sheet that can be thrown into the washing machine. Clean up any spills or accidents with pets on the bed immediately.

Upholstered carpets and furniture
Ideally, carpets and upholstered furniture should only be professionally cleaned once a year, using steam and suitable cleaners. No, that's not an excuse to avoid vacuuming carpets and upholstered furniture at least once a week. Regular vacuuming prevents dirt and dust from accumulating on the fibers.
If you're the do-it-yourself type, you can do more harm than good by cleaning frequently. Using too much shampoo or cleanser and getting too wet can cause serious damage. Too much shampoo attracts dirt and too much moisture weakens the carpet backing and causes mold and mildew to grow on carpet upholstery and furniture cushions.
