Purple loosestrife can disrupt wetland ecosystems as it replaces beneficial, native plants.

Each plant forms up to 2.5 million seeds the size of a peppercorn, which float on the water, impeding proper water flow with heavy infestations.

They also adhere to animals, affecting the nesting habitat of birds and other animals that bring many benefits to the ecosystem.
