12 Great Vegetables To Grow in a Shady Garden Space

While most vegetables require full sun (more than 6 hours a day) to produce the fresh foods we love, some vegetables and fruits can grow in partial shade.

Many are plants that are grown for delicious foods that do not need the sun to produce flowers and fruits, such as green leaves and roots. And almost everyone prefers cold weather.

While a sunny location is ideal for most fruits and veggies, many greens, such as beets, radishes, and salad greens, can be grown well in the shade.

For some veggies, a little shade can be a plus. Protected from the sun, you will need to water the plants less often. Also, some crops, such as salad crops, can suffer from the heat, so they will produce more lush growth in the shade.
